Eliane Correa

Eliane Correa is a young multi-heritage Latina pianist, MD and composer based between London and Havana since 2009. Trained classically, she first became known for her work as a bandleader, composer and pianist in her Latin fusion project, Wara, which went on to tour both in the UK and internationally, release several records and win three LUKAS Awards. In 2012 she started two other projects: La Evolución, a contemporary Cuban orchestra, and Afro-Cuban jazz/soul ensemble En El Aire Project. ["See below for more info" or link to further down in the page where the paragraph is for each of the two projects]. Her current work includes, among others, touring internationally as a soloist with The World of Hans Zimmer, curating the London Latin Jazz Festival every year, working as a musical supervisor for West African-inspired musical “DJEMBE! The Show”, and production and composing for musical theatre, film and TV. Her extensive Latin music portfolio includes playing, arranging and/or MDing for Pedrito Calvo and Mayito Rivera of the legendary Cuban ensemble Los Van Van, legendary Fania trombonist Jimmy Bosch, Latin Grammy nominee Maite Hontelé, world-renowned Latin Jazz pianist Alex Wilson and many more. She regularly collaborates with a wide range of artists such NYC-based poet and vocalist AMYRA, Ghanaian pop sensation Wiyaala, and Barcelona-based Latin electronic duo Sofree.

La Evolución Orchestra

After 8 years of packed monthly residencies upstairs at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club with her Cuban sextet, Eliane used her ample experience arranging and MD'ing Cuban music to take the leap and write her own original material for full-sized orchestra. La Evolución is the only UK-based Cuban orchestra which is both female-led and female-fronted, and since its beginnings in 2017 it has sold out the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and Pizza Express Jazz Club, and headlined the Latin Stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2019. With precise but powerful arrangements and an all-star line-up, the orchestra delivers a high-energy modern Timba (“Cuban salsa”) sound that is both authentic and unique. Their debut album, Signo de Fuego, is scheduled for late 2020 release.
