“A show with real energy, humour and a broad appeal….for those involved it can change lives.” Simon Broughton, Songlines
Goalmouth! is a large-scale community development project culminating in a spectacular song/dance/kora/massed choir performance. It’s a fantasy football musical with all the passion, tragedies and triumphs of World Cup Football. It is also a highly flexible community project that can be tailored and re-worked specifically for your own needs.
Two mythical teams the Lions and the All-stars are pitted against each other in a nail-biting, hard fought World Cup Final match. Goal scoring heroes, a fallen angel, excited commentators and even a press photographer all get involved in the action. Fouls, red cards, penalties, last minute changes of fortune, insults, a penalty and a dramatic event in the commentary box at half-time are all part of this hour-long, full-throttle choral celebration World Cup football.
Goalmouth! features Korasong Radio a multicultural UK-based band world-music band with their Gambian Kora player, Sura Susso as the goalscoring hero; Mophato Dance Theatre, a contemporary dance group from Botswana, who take on the roles of players and referees; and a massed choir, a group of locally-recruited singers who become the football crowd and belt out football chants one minute, switching to glorious African close-harmony the next.
