Background
Since its inception in 2007 the Canary Wharf Jazz Festival has gone from strength to strength, quickly moving from Jubilee Gardens to Canada Square Park. Festival goers can enjoy some of the best jazz around and all completely free!
It is rare to find a festival dedicated solely to the young musicians who are making such an impact on the UK Jazz scene. The festival actively promotes such talent and ensures that Canary Wharf becomes synonymous with musical innovation and collaboration, this was particularly on show for Canary Wharf Summer Sounds which culminated in a giant collaboration of musicians from around the globe in a stunning piece called 'the Compass Suite'.
Last years dazzling line up included the Robert Mitchell Trio, Alex Wilson, Jazzphonica Roundhouse Jazz Ensemble, Trio VD, Matthew Halsall, The Baker Brothers, Ruby Turner, Ernesto Simpson, The Haggis Horns, Natalie Williams, and Pee Wee Ellis.
The wonderful outdoor setting of the Canada Square Park provides the ideal platform for these musicians to shine and as a totally free event introduces them to new audiences.
From classic modern jazz sounds to free form musical improvisation, the Canary Wharf Jazz Festival will be a sure fire hit with every jazz lover in town. With fresh new faces and great talent from all over the UK, the mix of musical styles and musicians should make for a great celebration of this brilliant genre. Proving that there is no such thing as standard jazz, the guys on stage will no doubt have you toe tapping and getting up for a boogie as the festival goes on.![]()
