Bird Radio is multi-instrumentalist Mikey Kirkpatrick who, using voice, flutes, live looping and percussion draws from primordial folk, blues and ritualistic sound to create powerful songs that combine the ancient art of storytelling with rousing and hypnotic beats and rhythms. He has performed at over 100 venues and festivals nationally and internationally as well as composed music for experimental films and performance, been a featured artist on BBC radio, Resonance FM and WFMU in New York, received the "Knap O Howar" arts award in 2012 and released his first studio album “The Boy and the Audience” shortly followed by the “Time to Go” Film Trilogy in October 2013 on SFE/Cherry Red Records.
Bird Radio was awarded the Aldeburgh Music Open Space Residency for 2013/2014 where he has been composing and recording his second album and stage show Oh, Happy England, a collection of Walter de la Mare's poetry from the first half of the 20th Century, set to music and arranged for an ensemble of piano, flute, cello, guitar, bass and percussion.
